I booked Christmas Carolers for my December wedding. Originally, I wanted them to be outside at the end of the reception so that as everyone was leaving, they would be singing outside. Then, after realizing that it costs significantly more to have them that late at night, and to perform outside, I thought I would have them strolling around through my cocktail hour. But now I am thinking that there may be too much going on during that hour. The cocktail area is smaller than I would like and I feel like it may be a little chaotic. So...What do you think about having the carolers singing inside the mansion as people arrive? There is a balcony in the entry when you walk in and they can sing up there. Thing is though, they probably wouldn't perform for an entire hour. Probably more like 45 minutes. The invitation time is 7pm and the ceremony starts at 7:30. So, I could have them start at 6:45. So, while I pay for an hour, they perform for less. Not that that really matters I guess. I just want the right touch. I do currently have a piano and two strings instuments to play during the arrival time but I can always change that too, I guess. Thoughts??

Re: Decisions, decisions....
I think the carolers should be the welcoming party as people arrive. It will automatically get everyone in a good mood. Then the strings for the cocktail hour. I'm figuring that people will be talking so mch that the carolers will be lost but the strings will act as nice background music. Eh, that's what I would do

I think they should welcome your guests, whether its just inside as they are arriving or outside, either way. Such a nice touch

I love the idea of them singing as people come in.. Sounds like it would get everyone in such a good mood.

Alright then! As guests arrive it is! Thank you for the help. Now I have to try and change the contract. I signed it today for 8-9pm. I will change it to 6:30 to 7:30? Do you think that works? The invitation time is 7pm and ceremony starts at 7:30. I hope they don't give me a hard time to change it!

Re: Decisions, decisions....
Thank you all so much for your help! I just emailed the carolers to change the time to 6:30 -7:30. Now, my fingers are crossed that they are fine with it!!! I hate when things are not finalized - it stresses me out, lol!! Still so much to do and I am just starting to realize it!!!

i sent u some FM about this... we wanted and thought too that having them in the Lobby would be PERFECT... and thats where they started - but within 20minutes they ended up in the CH for a whole bunch of reasons...it worked out way better!

Sounds like she has her ceremony in between the arrival time and the CH, so she'd be paying for more time that she needs if she had them at both ... am i right??

Re: Decisions, decisions....
I thought of that. Our ceremony is at the receoption hall though. So it would be 'Carolers at the arrival, then ceremony, then carolers back to the cocktail hour. I don't want it to be caroler overkill. Being that the lobby area is intimate with the balcony right when you enter, I think I am going to have them perform up there. It will be dramatic and fun I think. I am REALLY worried that the cocktail hour is going to be tight.

Carolers are a great idea! I think the arrival time is the perfect spot for that. Get things started on a good note. Good Luck!
