Decisions decisions advice? (Long sorry lol)

Decisions decisions advice? (Long sorry lol)

For a number of reasons I decided a few months ago to cool it with the wedding planning and liw.it hasn't been easy but it has made things easier on me fh and family. But now I have a wedding related question for all of you.

So we wanted to get married in Oct 2012 but a few of our friends invited us on a cruise in january that we both REALLY want to go on and I mean really want to go. This is problematic for a few reasons. I wouldn't want our parents to think poorly of us for spending money on a vacation so close to our wedding, we still need to save quite a bit more money for our wedding and a house, and we want to buy a house soon after we get married but after we buy a house going on vacation is going to be pretty difficult and we are in love with going on cruises. I still want to get married but I don't feel the way I did when I first started planning. Part of me wants to push it back and just enjoy the way things are now, another part wants to just scale the wedding back and get it done, and another part wants to be responsible and start doing the grown up thing. I'm 22 and fh is 26. I don't know what to do, what do you girls think?

First, glad to see you are back!

If the cruise is in Jan and you want your wedding in Oct, I personally don't think thats too close where people should think badly for you spending the money, everyone needs a vacation and a break.

As to your wedding, I think the best advice I can give you is to follow your heart is telling you to do. Only you know if you want to hold off on getting married, or if you want to move forward with it. If its purchasing a house the concerns you, then maybe try apartment living for a while before buying a house.

I really hope everything works out for you!

I was wondering where you were! Welcome back

I think your head is in the right direction. If I were you I would just wait until 2013 or whenever it is that you have the time or money to get married. Like you said, you're not into it like you were when you 1st got engaged. So do your wallet a favor & wait! There is nothing wrong with that.

OR

Get married sooner & have a very small wedding! Do a backyard type thing or just cut your budget!

Keep us updated & good luck with whatever you choose! Oh and visit us everyone once in a while too

I agree Jan and Oct aren't too close!

As far as the rest, if you want to wait, then wait! No reason why you cant do like March 2013, go on the cruise, and save a little money for the wedding/house!. You are only 22 so I say if you are feeling like you need a little time, then take it!!!

Casey. Great to hear from you. I agree that just because you are getting married doesn't mean that you have to put everything in your life on hold.

I think you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself at age 22 to think you have to buy a house. Maybe think about renting so that you get s better idea of what running a house costs and that you do not have to come up with the money for the down payment. I am 10 years older than you and I am just buying our first home now. Although owning a home is great there is a lot of expenses you do not think about. I have been renting for 10 years and I am not even positive that I know exactly what I'm getting into

Miss you Casey definitely come and say hi more often

well if its money for the trip you need or in general you could always get another job - if you guys don't already work like a dog. (my fh complains ever sat when he's at work but i say money money moneyyyy make me a housewife )

I love selling things on e-bay. Helps with extra spending cash

I personally would rather get married and have a house before everything - which is our issue when it comes to going away this summer. His uncle offered us his house in SC so that just leaves flights and food so it will be a nice get away. And my parents are planning a trip also so we are lucky to get away and not have to pay.

What does your FH say?

Welcome Back!!

I agree with Mara, just because you are planning a wedding doesn't mean your have to put your life on hold. I think you should do what you think is best for you and FH. If it means a small restaurant wedding or backyard bbq over a fancy overpriced wedding than do it. Honestly at the end of the day (whatever kind of day you have) you will be married and that is the most important part of the whole day!

Happy to see you!!

I have to point out one thing that you said.....about getting the wedding 'over with'. Don't do it!!! I say wait and just postpone. Stop the wedding planning for now and there is nothing wrong with getting married in 2013 or 2014 or whenever! You are young- enjoy yourself. If you feel too much pressure and are at a point where you just want it 'over with', you won't enjoy it and you might look back years from now and regret rushing it. Just enjoy your life NOW- go on the cruise, have fun....you can married down the road.

We are here for you!!
