My ob said that at my next appt I have to decide whether or not to get the AFP test done. I am strongly considering not to due to the high occurance of false positives and no matter what the outcome-I wouldn't do anything anyway. Did anyone else not have the AFP test and were satisfied with their decision?

Re: Declining AFP test
Dani, I think you're well informed and the choice not to have it would be fine considering all the chances of false positives.
I did have it done though and everything came back fine. I was also in the same boat, the outcome wouldn't have mattered either way, but we did it anyway. My thoughts were that if we had a positive, that amnio wasn't necessarily the next step, but the Level 2 sono can rule out a lot.

I declined the test and I don't regret it. Level 2 Sono is an option to rule things out.

Re: Declining AFP test
Many people opt not to take the AFP test because of all the false positives. I took mine and it came back a little off but I didn't let it bother me. I know that it gives false posives pretty often and can understand why some people would rather just pass on it.

I did not have it and was perfectly comfortable with my (our) decision -- it's really a very personal decision...good luck whatever you choose!!

I am debating whether to take it too. I am suppose to go Thursday. I am strongly thinking of not having it done.

Re: Declining AFP test
I didn't care either way, but my husband wanted to know - we ended up both figuring that we'd want to know if there was anything wrong so that we could prepare. Of course there are tons of false positives. We would have gone on to the amnio in that case.
this is a very personal decision. And you should do what feels right in your gut.
