Re: decoupaging??

Decoupage is a great way to decorate an object, with different pictures, texture, pattern, or theme. The possibilities are endless, make some decoupaged boxes to match your room theme, or make some for your friends and family. I'ts learned fairly quickly, in just a few steps.

Steps
In a bowl, or clean empty jar, mix part glue to part water.
Stir until the glue has an almost thin, creamy, consistency.
Next comes your paper. Tissue paper, wrapping paper, decoupage paper (found in craft stores), cards, etc.
Cut the paper into strips, squares, or any desired shape.
Using a paintbrush, brush some glue mixture onto your surface.
Lay a piece of your cut paper onto area which you applied the glue.
Smooth out the surface with a paintbrush, or your finger.
Apply a little glue to the top of your paper, making sure to get each corner and edge.
Repeat that same process, this time over lap your paper onto the one which you previously glued down.
Keep doing this, until your surface is fully covered with paper.
Once glue is dry, rub your hand over the surface, feeling for peeled up corners, wrinkles, or papers that may feel like they aren't wanting to stick. Paint your glue mixture on your surface, taking care of all those imperfections.
Allow your item to completely dry, then give it a couple coats of Matte spray sealer, or varnish.

Tips
Items to decoupage: Wood, paper, paper mache', cardboard, plastic, metal, just about any surface.
You can purchase Mod Podge (found in craft stores), but it's a little more expensive than the Elmer's glue.
Make sure that your papers are only printed on one side, or the pattern will show through once the glue touches it.
Add extra personal touches by adding charms, a favorite scripture, or song lyrics, sea shells, pressed flowers, stickers, glitter, beads, and more.
Finish off your item by lining the edges of your surface with ribbon, lace, seed beads, a line of glue with sand sprinkled onto the glue to keep it from going anywhere, glass flat sided marbles, or puff paint.
Cut some paper for your kids, and let them decorate their own paper mache' box. Have items ready for them, beads, shells, puff paint, feathers, etc. They will be entertained for hours, okay, maybe one hour. At least they'll have fun.
Warnings
Keep glue, scissors, paint, and all small pieces away from small children. Cut the paper for them, and keep your eyes on them, to make sure they arent eating beads, or sand, etc.
