You don't have to leave the AC on allt he time. As long as you go daily and give them water and food they will be fine. What we do is we put out an extra water bowl and we throw ice cubes in so it's ice cold longer and have our friends turn on the air for a half hour or so while they are there at full last, so it cools the apartment a little. Also leave the door to the bathroom open because they like the coolness of the tiles when its really hot to escape to.
