We did a combined dance, and picked Lonestar - Let Them Be Little.
Growing up, I didn't have that fairytale relationship with my dad that all the songs portrayed ... so this was perfect
Hope it helps!

Re: Mother/Son Dance - this one's a toughy!!

this is what my fh is dancing with his mom

If I Could
I'd protect you from the sadness in your eyes
give you courage in a world of compromise
yes I would
If I could
I would teach you all the things I've never learned
and I'd help you cross the bridges that I've burned
yes I would
if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
but the part of life I gave you isn't mine
I've watched you grow
so I could let you go
if I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
but I know that I can never cry your tears
but I would
if I could
if I live in a time and place where you don't want to be
you don't have to walk along this road with me
my yesterday won't have to be your way
if I knew
how I'd try to change the world I brought you to
and there isn't very much that I can do
but I would
if I could
if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
but that part of life I gave you isn't mine
I watched you grow so I could let you go
if, if I could
I would help you make it through those hungry years
but I know that I can never cry your tears
but I would
if I could
yes I would
yes I would
if I could

Re: Mother/Son Dance - this one's a toughy!!

Well, Kricket212, the problem is that me and my fiance definitely can't afford to help anybody with their flights. We're doing this whole wedding on our own and the money is extremely tight. So tight to the point that I'm even nervous about being able to get every payment done on time.

His mom has been given plenty of notice about this wedding and should have been saving for it. And even if she hasn't done so already it's not as tho she's out of time. There's still a few more months to get some money together if it's really important for her to be there. It's still not a definite 'no' though. I'm REALLY hoping that she'll decide to come. Thanks for that info though on Jet Blue. I'll check it out and let her know if I find anything.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY for the suggestions!! I really don't want him to have to go without that dance. I'm just glad that he's as close to my mother as he is, to be able to share it with her if his own mom doesn't make it.

I kinda agree -- she raised him but can't make to the wedding and is replaced... OUCH

I hear you about money being tight but If it were me I would buy the woman a ticket. I would charge it.
Some people barely make enough to scrape by -- it's not always easy to save.

I definitely hear what you're saying, but it's so far from being 'replaced' really. I promise - none of this is being done in a tasteless way at all. I don't wanna get all into their history, but basically his mom and him don't have the relationship that many others probably have. She really didn't raise him at all. His grandmother (who passed on many years ago) did. So if SHE'D still been alive, he probably would choose to share that dance with her.

But enough about that. We'll have to wait and see what happens. If anybody has any other suggestions for the song, I'd definitely appreciate it.
