I would just apologize and say you liked a particular style, album type, whatever....

This is a tough situation....

Just sit down with him and have a heart to heart.

Something like, 'i LOVE the work that you shoot and I do think it's amazing and will recommend you to anyone. But i'm honestly not 100% sure about this other photographer. I also don't want you to worry about anything during the wedding and if we use someone from your company i'm afraid that might happen. We are really close which is why it's hard for me to tell you this but i think it would be rude and not fair to you if i didn't at least talk to you about it and let you know my feelings and where i stand'

something like that anyway..

Does he know you only like his work and not the other photographers? Personally I'd just explain to him that you really like his work personally, but not the other photog's. And that you want him to enjoy the wedding and be part of it instead of working it. Also, if his other person is doing the photography, who's to say he won't be watching over his shoulder all night and therefore not necessarily enjoying himself as much?

maybe dont blame it on not liking the guys work bc that might offend your cousin....but say you didn't click with the guy. The photog is someone you have to spend the entire day with and its important to feel really comfortable with them...if you explain that to your cousin then maybe he will be more understanding.

I prefer to never mix business with family, and you can tell him the same thing. What if there is a business problem? You don't want to mess up a family relationship. It is better to never use the family company at all. You can tell him that this is your across-the-board rule.

Ouch. This is a toughie, especially since it;s family....

Honesty is the only way out with this one. Just explain to him that he (your cousin) would be your first choice, and since you will not allow him to do it, you'd prefer to use someboy he is not affiliated with. Maybe even politely tell him that this other photag is not your style?

Just be honest with him and tell him exactly how you feel, that you don't like his partners style and these are your wedding pictures and you want to be 100% happy with them, it's nothing against your cousin. It's a wierd situation but just being flat out honest is your best bet.

its ur day. He has to understand or learn to understand. Not everyone likes everyones work. his coworker or employee isn't him so he shouldnot be offended. you should not sacrfice ur albums and stuff just to make a family member happy.

i would just tell him the truth.... you love his work but the other photographer just really isnt your style... you love him and hope that in no way does he take this persoanlly or gets offended..... if you dont speak up you will end up paying for pics that you dont like and working with someone who you know will not produce the results you want

One piece of advice - NEVER book friends, family, or friends' of friends for your wedding. It can cause a rift if you have problems in the future. Just tell your cousin that while you appreciate his help, you'd prefer to keep the business aspect of your wedding separate from the family and friends. You want to hire someone that has no relationship to you or your family, so that IF you do have a problem, it won't cause an issue in the future.

I agree...just tell him that you love him, but you think his associate doesn't fit in with your vision.

That is a sticky situation...sorry you have to even think about this!

you have to tell him the truth. Try to make it funny like 'no one is as good as you'

Let him know that while you sincerely appreciate his offer, the photog he wants you to use simply doesn't have the same taste.

And, you want him to relax at the wedding, not monitoring one of his employees. Because your cousin may feel obligated to spent the day ordering around the photog and keeping and eye on him.

just be honest. tell him that you and your fiancee have discussed this and have decided to go with another photographer but you appreciate the opportunity to meet w/ him.
