I say don't make any rash decisions until you know for sure about the lay offs. Unfortunately, in this economy, no one's job is safe. I say hold off for now, you have so much time until your wedding that you could probably even work something out with your hall. When FH left his job and I dropped down to part time, the month of July was tough for us and our venue let us miss that payment without a problem since we had so much time, so you can try talking to them too. Good luck and I'll say a little prayer for ya!!

Re: Potential Layoffs... Cancel Wedding?
I say hang in there and don't let this be a set back...unfortunately, with this damn economy there is no such thing as job security. Wait a bit more before making any decisions...You do have at least a year and a half to pay off the wedding. everything will work out on its own. My prayers are with u guys!

Is FH a NYC teacher?
Yes. He works for the Office of Mental Health as a Social Studies Teacher for children with severe emotional disabilities. He works full time there, but doesn't yet have permanent status, as he's waiting for his name to be published on the list (it's supposed to come out this week), but they eliminated his position and the one he was lined up for. 40% of their department was laid off today including him and his boss, which will stand if they deem a re-vote illegal, or if the contract is again rejected.
He figures he has less than a 50% shot at keeping his job, so he's currently searching. I feel awful for him - and everyone else that was laid off.

I say elope :)
The more you get into the wedding plannnig (contracts, etc) the harder it is to get out of it.
Why not just go to the Caribbean? or Florida? Naples is very nice. You can have a beach wedding.

I would wait and see how things work out--I would hate for you to cancel your wedding when things may not work out the way we see them now.
Try to take a step back from the wedding for a little while..
From what I've heard in Suffolk County you can cancel your wedding up to six months before and get all your money back with the exception of 100 dollars.
I hope everything works out for both of you.
Sending hugs your way!

The reason why I suggested Eloping is because you are 2013 and I thought it would be easier to get out now before having so many vendor contracts. I think destination weddings are fun and exciting ideas. If I had to do this all over again, I MIGHT... just MIGHT have eloped.

Im so sorry you have to go thru this. I agree with the other girls tho that maybe its best if u wait a lil bit longer to see what happens. U have so long until ur wedding that it would be terrible to cancel ur wedding only to then find that u both still have ur jobs. Whatever u decide though, we will be here to support u! I'll be praying for u and ur FH and I truly hope things work out!

Re: Potential Layoffs... Cancel Wedding?
tell your FH to apply as a special ED teacher as well. The majority of special ED teachers are females, so having a male is very much needed. My male cousin just got a teaching job in the city as a special ED teacher.
If I were you, I'd explain to your hall what you are going through and hold off on any future wedding planning. I'd definately elope somewhere romantic as somone mentioned like Florida. Make it a wedding/honeymoon.
