Delicate Issue-Asking Mom for $$

I am 29 (will be 30 in Dec), FH is 26. We both have full time jobs. I live on my own, he lives with his mom. His parents are divorced as are mine, but both my parents are remarried (and my folks both live out of state). My dad has already told he he can only afford to give us $1000 towards the wedding. FH already said his parents will do the same for us as they did his brother and sister (who are both already married) and that is give us $500 as gift. How do I ask my mom how much she can help us with the finances? We had anticipated paying for most of the wedding, but want to utilize any resource we can. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Do you need to ask her? Won't she just offer?

Not necessarily. I guess for now I will play it by ear. I got engaged on 7-18-04 and we're having an engagement party on 4-23-05. As I said, she lives out of state (Illinois) and we don't see each other that often . I will see if she has not offered by the engagement party (which FH and I are paying for), then I can ask, just not sure how. Any suggestions on how to casually bring the topic up?

My best advice is to just do it and get it over with. Dont think about it and over analyze it to death. I was going through something similar a few months ago with my dad. I just went for it and got it over with while we were just casually talking about the wedding over the phone one day.

Even if its something little, even if its nothing, at least you know. Good luck!

You can just say something to the affect of... fh and i are trying to get our finances in ourder for the wedding, would you be able to contribute?

does that sound rude?
I don't think I am being much of a help..

Thank you for the advice. I think I will talk to her next week. We are going to meet with the Monsignor to set the date at the church!
