Dental procedure question

So yesterday, I went back to the dentist to have my tooth prepared to put on a crown (I had a root canal a few months back) They already put the post on the tooth. Dentist starts out by numbing my mouth with novacaine. He injects the needle into the side of my mouth(back tooth) and all of a sudden I feel a jolt of 'electricity' in my tounge and I jump. The dentist responds by asking me if I felt a sharp pain in my tounge, that that means that the injection was very close to the nerve and that it only happends like 1 in 800 patients (lucky me). Anyway..my tounge still feels a little funky near the injection, like slightly numb.I researched on the internet and read that this means the nerve was damaged and can take weeks or years to repair itself..if it repairs itself at all.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

Re: Dental procedure question

yes. kind of.

mine happened with the numbing injection when i had the actual root canal on my lower left bicuspid.

i had a numb spot on my chin for about a month and it felt like... itchy sort of. it was so annoying and FH was flipping out and making me so stressed saying 'what if it never comes back!?'

but it did. just hang in there. its annoying but i'm sure you'll be back to normal soon.
