How much do photographers normally ask for the deposit? 1/3? 1/2? TIA!!

we left $500, our total was $4500. they want 2/3 of the balance before the wedding and the remainder when we get our proofs - i think.

$500 although a different photographer wanted 700 but then we didn't have to make another payment until the wedding then the rest when we picked up proofs

2/3 would be due couple weeks before wedding...as for inital deposit..it varys by place... generally, its done in 1/3rd's
