we have a few checks from invitees who responded 'NO'. should i deposit them now or wait till after the wedding?
i know if someone waited a couple weeks to deposit one of MY checks it would throw me way off, i just feel weird depositing wedding checks before the wedding.
thanks ladies :)

Re: depositing checks
This is a great question .. i was wondering the same thing cause I just got a check in the mail today... is it rude to deposit it now?

Re: depositing checks
I would deposit them. I feel the same way as you do about people holding on to checks that I have written. I am so anal about my checkbook that I hardly ever write checks because I hate waiting for them to clear.

Re: depositing checks
I have a follow-up question...
are you created a new joint account for that? Or are you just putting it in one of yours and earmarking it as wedding gift $?
I figured we'd open a joint account once we're married. We don't even live together yet -- these are such big steps!

we opened a joint account to pay for the wedding, so we already have a checking together (plus our own seperate accounts for now) so the checks would go into our wedding joint account

Re: depositing checks
I didn't know that people send checks if they aren't coming but it's nice to know that it's a possibility.
We have a joint account now. We opened it shortly after becoming engaged. We felt that eventually all assets would be shared anyway so what was the point in waiting. Also, I do a lot of shopping for the wedding and things so it wouldn't be fair for me to just keep paying for things myself, but that never came up.
Anyhow, I'd deposit it, I wouldn't wait because the person could forget that they wrote it and I think if they sent it now, they want you to have it now. Otherwise, they could have sent it with a card two days before your wedding.

Re: depositing checks
I deposited them right away. FH and I also opened up a joint checking to pay for certain wedding things and for this purpose so I just deposited them right into this acct.

Definitely deposit and send a thank you note since they sent it early.

I woulod deposit them.
If they were sent, they were meant as a gift so you should not feel bad about depositing them

I was thinking about this too.. so should we send a regular thank you note or wait till we get the thank you note with our wedding pic in it?

I think it's ok to send a regular Thank You.

Re: depositing checks
Personal checks expire after 6 months. So just be aware of that. I know your wedding isn't 6 months away.
I would deposit it right away. MOST people get thrown off by carrying over that outstanding balance... esp the people like FH who don't keep a check registry and balance like an anal retentive freak (like me). So I would so do it right away. I don't see any reason or need to wait to deposit that.

I would deposit and send a thank you early. I've given checks to people in the past and they've waited so long to deposit it, I've totally forgotten about it.

Re: depositing checks
If someone gives you a gift before the wedding and they're attending the wedding, do you wait until after the wedding to give them a thank you card? I say yes bc i want to thank them for taking part in our special day etc...

Re: depositing checks
NW crashing - my DH and I had a few people who did this as well. we did cash the checks when we received them, but we sent a thank you card (just a regular one from the card store) expressing our regrets that they couldn't attend and thanking them for the very thoughtful gift. then we also sent them a regular wedding thank you, b/c we felt that they were nice enough to send a gift we thought they would like to see the pictures!
they were very appreciative!

Re: depositing checks
I would definitely deposit them now because I know when I write checks, I budget for them to be cashed right away and I hate when checks float out there for months and months.
