Depositing checks as Mr and Mrs before the wedding?
Today we received our first check as Mr and Mrs!
Now, 2 questions: 1- can we deposit this in his account before our wedding? (if so, do I endorse it as my future name?)
2 - even right after the wedding, how should we handle these checks?

Re: Depositing checks as Mr and Mrs before the wedding?
when i called my bank they told me:when we get checks as MR & MRS, we deposit them into our joint account.
I sign Jennifer (my maiden name)
and he signs
John XXXXX
before the wedding and after until we get the marriage lisence thing then i can sign with my married name
Congrats! Must feel so good!

Re: Depositing checks as Mr and Mrs before the wedding?
what Jenn said is the legal and proper way, but the bottom line is they don't check that closely. I've endorsed checks written to my maiden name with my married name and vice versa. As long as you have a joint account, they really don't care. In fact, I think I deposited 99% of the wedding checks into our joint account before I changed my name on the acct anyway.

Re: Depositing checks as Mr and Mrs before the wedding?
I worked in a bank for several years, I'll tell you how it's done.If it's a joint account, and the check amount is under $500 (for most banks, some OK up till $1000)
then just endorse it normally with your maiden name, and FH can sign it regularly.
It is considered double endorsed.
For over your banks limit on double endorsed, be careful. I say this b/c even though the teller may take it, there is always a chance that someone in the backoffice that will reject the check.
If it is over the limit, just see a service rep, and they will approve it for you so it doesn't get sent back for sure. In any case, if you don't follow this advice, your checks may still be fine, but I've seen checks returned way too many times. . . .
Hope this helps,
Liz
