What is the average deposit required by vendors? 10-20%, or just any money down to hold a date? FH and I are reluctant to start meeting with photographers, etc. because we are low on funds at the moment.

It varies by place. Patkin was a third at deposit but since we were far out they only had us give 500

It depends. One vendor wants 40%, another one wants $1000, and another one wants $500. It all varies. Talk to them about it and they might be open minded.

It really does depend on the vendor. TP wanted 1000. After hours just told me 500 or 1000 depending on if I book the strings for my ceremony or not, but then nothing else til the day of the wedding.

Every place is different...i think they usually tell you what kind of deposit they want

Call them first, they usually will tell you the deposit requirements over the phone.
