We went to see our band play last weekend in a local bar. (We checked them out and booked them before New Year's, but wanted to show them to our friends). Well, they played nothing but disco and early 80's music for the whole night. I like that genre in small doses, and was really upset when I heard them play. I checked their song list, and there's not a lot of modern (post 1990) dance music on their list. So now I'm scared that my wedding is going to turn into Studio 54!
Should I cancel? Will I lose my deposit?
Any suggestions???

I find most wedding dj's do that - no matter what you ask for!!!

It sounds like a fun wedding to me, but you should talk to them. Say you saw them, and you liked them a lot, but you were hoping for more modern music. Maybe they're more flexible than you think. Ask them exactly what songs they usually play, don't let them tell you 'Oh we play lots of modern stuff too!' Make them define exactly how many. Because they do know. Your wedding is a ways off, they have plenty of time to learn new songs if they have to! Or, maybe you booked the wrong band. Why did you book them? Did you hear them play and like them? Get a recommendation? Were you misled?

We booked them before New Years after seeing them perform in a different bar. I initially liked them a lot, but FH LOVED them. They played a little more of a mix when we first saw them, and several LIW brides gave them rave reviews. That's a good idea to get a defined list of what they'll play...
But if the worst happens... will I lose my deposit?

I'm sure if you sit and talk with them about what you want played and give them a playlist to go by as a guideline, it shouldl be fine.
