Is there a rule of thumb as to what the different vendors will require for deposits? We're already set with our hall, so I'm specifically interested in florists, photographers and dj's. Do they just want a little something to hold the date (and if so, how little of a 'something' do they want), is it a % of the contract amount, or whatever?

The florists I've spoken to ask for 20% down. My photographer asked for $500.

well my photographer is 1/3 now 1/3 a month before the wedding and 1/3 when we pick up all our pictures. that is the only thing i booked so far.

this is what we left:
SMCC - $500- was supposted to be $750, but we went on a saturday to leave the deposti, adn forgot the banks close early ( james, our bm, was great) he took the $500 and that was fine
Limos - $200, i think we pay the rest a month before the wedding.
photo/video - we left $500 and they want 1/2 a month before the wedding.

Florist- He is FH cousin so we really havent discussed any payments or flowers yet

Photo/video $7500 - deposit was $1000 down, 1/2 of balance before wedding, 1/4 with proofs, 1/4 with albums
DJ $2895 - $1000 deposit, balance the night of (I think)
Florist $2500 - nothing down, total due day of
Fox Hollow - like 5 installments of $1000 or $2000 since 11/03

The one DJ I looked at wanted only a $50 deposit! Which is good b/c we're struggling to pay off the ENORMOUS amount our hall wants in the first few months
