I just got engaged for couple weeks and I am planning for the wedding in 2008. Frankly, I feel very stressed out already! Yeah, I know it's too early! I do feel depressed, because: 1) I feel alone and all my bridemaids (even though we are best friends for more than 10 yrs) are not very supportive! a) they don't want to pay for their dress - yeah, based on Chinese tradition, bride covers all these costs! b) one girl told me to switch the wedding date from summer to fall because she wants to travel in august.
2) Friends are not very supportive. One guy told me that if I have my wedding outside of the city, he won't attend because he can't drink if he needs to drive.
3) But I always want to have a dream wedding --outdoor wedding... I have searched around in the city, but I can't find any outdoor spaces except the Cooper museum which costs about 30K for the site rental.
I am wondering what I should do? Should I go for a destination wedding?
Thanks for listening to me! I feel much better now...

Re: Depressed! Stress out for planning!
If you want an economical and beautiful wedding, a destination wedding is definitely the way to go as long as you don't mind it being a small one (unless you have rich friends who will all fly out there. My friends are poor). Do what makes you happy and don't let anyone get you down. It's your time to shine, make it a happy experience!

Re: Depressed! Stress out for planning!
My best friend gave me a little bit of advice when she was planning her wedding. She said, you have to do what makes you and your FH happy. It is your wedding day. And no matter how hard you try, you will NEVER make everyone happy.
If it is chinese tradition that you pay for the BM dresses, you might wanna do that. But as far as changing the date from summer to fall, if you are really set on having it in the summer than I would tell that bridesmaid to make it if she can, but if she can't you will understand. And not attending a wedding because you will not be able to drink is rude, if you are good friends with the person getting married...but again I would tell your friend the same thing ...to come if he can, but you will understand if he can't.
The way I see it, when brides start saying how they would like things done, and others don't like it.they call the bride a 'bridezilla'. But ya know what, your wedding only happens once (well not always )...but it is a day you want to remeber forever, and you don't wanna look back and wish you had not changed the date to fall, etc. You and your FH will remeber the day for the rest of ur lives, probably looking back on it all the time, the people who are complaing and giving you a hard time, will not......
So, I think my BF was right, do what makes you and your FH happy, and don't feel bad about it!

Re: Depressed! Stress out for planning!
first off, CONGRATS!!!!!!!
secondly:
STOP LISTENING TO EVERYONE ELSE!
That's probably the best advice anyone can give you. Regardless of where you do it, how you do it, what you make people wear, the people that matter the most to you in your life are the people that will be there to celebrate with you that day and to be honest ( i know with sounds harsh) but the ones that opt not to come for this or that ridiculous reason aren't worth getting upset over!

Re: Depressed! Stress out for planning!
i agree with the two previous posts. be polite, but do tell them... 'i would love for you to be part of my special day, but i would understand if you are not able to be there.' and move on. those who love you, will move mountains to be there.
this is where i wanted to get married. it's beautiful, no matter what season of the year. it is to die for... it's a shame i moved to nj
oh, well, i'll get over it

Re: Depressed! Stress out for planning!
congratulations on getting engaged!!
don't let your friends stress you out!! We had people giving us some slack about our date choice, b/c they already know that they'll have another wedding the week before mine, and don't want to attend weddings 2 weeks in a row......as the other ladies said- you will NEVER make everyone happy, so you might as well at least make sure you & FH are happy.
And your friend complaining about not being able to drink at your wedding is one of the most immature things I've ever heard. I can't believe some people....they should just be happy for you!!

Girls,
Thanks for all your support! Frankly, I thought that wedding is our day and I tried to make everyone happy for me and with me. I guess if that's not the case, I will try to do anything to make myself happy. I am glad that I can hear some support from you gals! Thanks! It's very sweet of you!
