Dermatologist Recs

Soooo...we're 3 months away from the big day. FH suffers from cystic acne and has been to many derms and tried every stupid acne system you can think of. He breaks out randomly all the time and I've asked him to go back to the doctor to get back on the oral medication he used to take. He thinks going there is a waste of money and time bc they just poke and prick him, write him a script, then tell him to come back in 2 weeks. Has anyone had or known someone who has suffered from cystic acne and can recommend a good dermatologist? Someone who might have a real solution (either the Long Beach or Williston Park area). Thanks!

I have a great dermatologist, but I usually end up waiting for at least an hour to see her which can get on my last good nerve. Her name is Dr. Tina Funt, she's in Garden City.

I've had terrible acne my whole life, too. I can't recommend a derm in the area (if you're willing to go to Queens, Dr. Zuckerman in Bayside is great!) It sounds shallow, but when you go to the consult, have him say that his focus is looking good for the wedding. They will make monthly appointments to inject the bad ones with saline - it sucks but it works! Tell him to stick with it. You have plenty of time before the wedding and if he stays vigilant about going to the appointments and taking the medicines it will get better.

My guess is that he feels hesitant to go because a lot of men feel that dr appointments outside of the annual physical and dentists are sort of 'feminine.'

I'd also recommend an OTC retinol cream - they can be a little pricey but they're available at sephora and they have really helped me with scarring.

Dr. Cameron Rokshar in Garden City - he's wonderful. i was suffering from terrible acne too and needed to clear my skin up for my wedding. day of, it was picture perfect.

i was also getting facials (not sure fH will do those) and found that Stacy at Spa 190 in Mineola is excellent. She is so educated on skin care - she was a dream come true!!!

Dr. Rokshar's office does facials too.
