i saw your review on the old boards adn I waswondering if there was anything you could tell me re: the DeSeversky mansion's layout. I heard it had gone downhill since you were married but the good news is that it might be in my budget now b/c people are freaking out over the mess. I live in NYC so I have never been there & I don't know bad the construction nearlby is. I really don't want a banquet hall. there are other places that say they are mansions and then the room where you are for 4 hours is a banquet room. But this looked closer to what I dreamed about. Did you mind having the cocktail-style party?
HI! Let me first preface this that I don't live in the area any longer (for the past yeart) so I have no idea about the construction. Is it at Deserversky or on the street nearby or what? As far as the mansion style wedding---it was perfect for us and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place and it worked wonderfully. We had the ceremony in one room, which was then cleared for dancing later on. Then there were four other rooms that had buffet style and carving stations. There were tables set up throughout---it was like people coming to our home for a huge party. The guests had a blast--they could go from one room to another (each room had different food stations). This enabled our guests to mingle much more than they would have if it was a sit down dinner . Since our family and friends did not know each other, it actually made it a much more comfortable environment for people to interact. We were worried that with this style there would be less food, like just cocktails---but it wasn't like that at all. In fact, people commented on our video about how much food there was and how good it was. The staff that we worked with were incredible--and they were great in getting everyone together for dancing and toast and everything.. It was a wonderful change from the more typical sit down wedding which worked perfectly for us and our guests. I would definetely consider it. If you have any more questions, please let me know. I would be curious to find out how things have changed since we had our wedding there---
good luck!

Re: Deseversky - Paging NEDA---LONG REPLY!!
Dear Neda,
thank you so much for your quick response - it was really helpful! I would also like to say congratulations on making it to the parenting board, I didn't go nuts searching, but it looks like you are due soon!! that is really exciting. As for the mansion, I have heard that they recently sold land and they have begun to build houses. Apparently you can see it from the side of the house where they used to have ceremonies outdoors. You can see them when you pull up. It sounds pretty bad - bad enought that people have been cancelling or not having their weddings there. Someone else said they have also temporarily torn up the landscaping. A woman that grew up nearby said it isn't kept up as well inside and it has really gone downhill. that being said, i think they are more willing to negotiate right now, so i was thinking of having a Saturday night party (I was anyway) that started when it was dark. That way you wouldn't notice the construction. With the weather in NY you can't count on an outdoor ceremony anyway. It really is a travesty if they ruined it though - when those big houses were built people were richer than they are now - even the DuPont's can't live like the DuPont's anymore- so they should really try to preserve the feeling. Anyway, enough drama!
