Design mavens...HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPP!!!!

Ok, here is my couch, in this same color. I have a cadet blue rug underneath it. HELP ME FIND THROW PILLOWS/ACCENTS THAT WILL MATCH AND NOT LOOK CHEESY! It's cheesy enough that I have a blue rug under this couch. I also have all light wood furniture. A maple entertaiment unit that matches the legs on the couch, a maple dining table and chairs that is in the same room (it's a living/dining area) and the lamp also posted below.

Pictures of pillows, curtains etc would be VERY helpful.

Edited to add the wall color....all off white, and we can't paint yet (our landlord painted it before we moved in, so it's all fresh and new paint)

The lamp we have is the lighter color one..with silver accents:

Anyway you can change the rug? I dont think blue compliments those couches very well. You can buy pretty cheap rugs at Home Depot and Lowes in basic shades that wont stand out as much.

As for the pillows, I dont think pillows on leather couches really enhance them unless you have color on the walls (that way you can use it to tie in). So save your $$ on pillows and invest in a new rug.

Nice sofas and lamp. I take it you dont like the cadet blue? Are you talking about an area rug or wall to wall. If you are talking about wall to wall you can cover it up with an area rug in the Living area and a coordinating area rug in the Dining area.

You dont need to cover the existing carpet completely. Im sure you can find something that combines a netural like your sofa, dark blue or grey blue and maybe burgandy as the main color. Than you can pick up your main color for drapes, throws table cloths and other accents. This way the cadet blue rug will be neuturalized.

Happy decorating

Changing the rug isn't an option right now because there is so much that would go into doing that, namely moving the entertainment unit and both couches, DH won't even talk about changing the rug. We had it already and it's in great condition. It's not a bad match, just difficult to accessorize.

I was thinking about burgundy as a compliment, but then I run into what color curtains and stuff... this is difficult!

I was also thinking of turning it very fun. Seeing as I already have two warm colors, and the burgudy could match, I could add rich golden yellows, creams, darker blues...and even accessorize with those restaurant style pictures. You know the ones of little Italian chefs or wines??? I could do that closer to the dining area...and maybe get a really nice silver bordered mirror over the couch to expand the room...

Do I make any sense, or would this just turn out to look like a big mess?

I have no design confidence!

I agree pillows dont look right on leather couches

What color blue is the rug? Blue violet? true blue?

You can try a split-complementary scheme by adding a red-orange. It looks great with blue -violet and tan. Almosst like a rust. But it depends on the rug color

It's more of a cadet blue..a blue with gray undertones. But, you are thinking along my lines now....I was thinking about playing up the warm tones, hoping it would take away from the rug! Addings lots of jewel tones....

I didnt realize you had blue carpeting, I thought it was an area rug.

Anyway, i would urge against adding a burgandy in there. Blue is a cool tone...mixing cool and warm tones (beiges, yellows, reds) is very difficult to do well.

Unless you are really comfortable with colors...it seems like a very daunting task to me.

This whole thing seems daunting. I think it might be easier to 'accidentally' spill an entire gallon of oil on the rug.

By the way, I know exactly the type of wall art you are talking about. It looks great with dark leather furniture and dark wood everywhere. Its very chic bar atmosphere.

What about a middle eastern pattern for pillows if you can find them - sort of like a turkish rug? Brings in the jewel tones in a muted way, and also the earthy tones. I'd lean towards the deep emerald, blue sapphire, wine and topaz ranges, staying away from the true purples. Maybe something along those lines for curtains too, but in a softer look, or just for a valance, with a green or gold sheer curtain.

Here are some patterns from rugs in a variety of styles that pull together the colors
