Is anyone else ever shocked at the 'other homes in the area have sold for' prices on the show Designed to Sell??????
Tonight .. the houses in the area are selling for $1,000,000!!
It appears that home prices in California are as bad as here on Long Island.

Yes, I have heard that California (whether or not it's the whole state or parts) is comparable to LI in terms of affordability (or lack of!)

Yeah I heard CA is just as bad if not worse than Long Island. My friend's parents bought a house in 1986 for $134,000. Since then they have updated the kitchen and bathrooms and kept the house looking very nice. They just listed it for $925,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I've never heard them say where .. but the license plates on the cars say California (from what we've seen).

Re: 'Designed to Sell' - Home Prices
I actually live in California. And got a good chuckle out of this thread and the entire home board.
IT IS SOOOOOO MUCH MORE MONEY OUT HERE IN LOS ANGELES THAN LONG ISLAND.
At least on Long Island you get property here you don't and in certain areas, actually most areas, you live right on top of your neighbors.
Because the neighborhoods out here are so diverse and being a newlywed couple planning to have kids someday you pay EVEN MORE MONEY just to be in a good area that you would feel comfortable sending your kids to school each day.
We looked for over a year and have been saving and we were able to purchase our first home. But it took A LOT of doing and creative arranging.
Please keep me laughing when I read how much it is on Long Island double that and you are just starting to tap in the market here in California.

Re: 'Designed to Sell' - Home Prices
My cousin lives in California with her husband and their 3 year old daughter (also my flower girl) and the housing there is just as much as it is out here....hence why my FH and I are being forced out..housing is too much here. Hello Florida here we come!

Parts of Cali are worse (prices of homes) than Long Island. My cousins bought a condo that is smaller than my first apartment (one bedroom) for almost $400,000 in Long Beach, California.

Actually, houses that are being built today on LI have 1/4 acre or less! It's ridiculous! And anyone who has an acre or more is selling off parts to make a huge profit - and have someone living in their backyard. I've seen so many people in Bohemia do this - it's sad

this is why a think property size is key (aside from several others) when house hunting. our house has over an acre of property and CANNOT be subdivied. when we decide to sell the property size will be a MAJOR plus.
