FH and I are trying to think of different ways to keep costs down. What do you think of us having a dessert only RD? We're not going to be rehearsing until the day of, so we were going to have our 'rehearsal' dinner the weekend before the wedding just to get everyone together and give out our gifts. It popped into my head last night that it might be cute to just serve all different kinds of cookies, pastries cakes, sundae bar, etc... and just have wine and after dinner drinks. Would it look like we were being cheap, or would you like a party like that?

Yum! Who wouldn't like a dessert party?
What about having appetizers also, just cheese and crackers and little things like that, then having all the dessert?
As good as the dessert sounds, I think I would like food also, even if its appetizers

I think it is a great idea. Just tell me so that they can eat a bit before. If it was me, I wouldn't eat and just load up on desserts!! This is my kind of party!!!!!!

I was actually thinking of the same thing.
Mine is a little different though. We are rehearsign at teh church at 7, so I thought it wold be too late for diner, so I jsut wanted to do coffee & cake, but now I amthinikng sicen we are makign peopel coemto teh church at dinner tiem they may not have time to eat before hand.
Since yours is just more of a gathering I think its fine, just have it later, maybe 8 or so, so people can eat first & don't refer to it as a dinner.
I've been invited over to people's houses for 'cake & coffee' for occasions, so I think this would be the same kinda thing.

I would definitely let people know that it was a dessert party. I'm planning on handwriting blank cards as the invitations and making them more like little notes inviting them. I wold probably do it around 7 on a Saturday and let people not to have dinner first, but not to fill up because I plan on having tons of goodies!

I think it is a great idea. My friends and I always talk about having a dessert party. I think it would be fun.
I also like the idea of a wine and cheese.

I am pretty sure Hallmark makes invites for a Dessert Party, I think I saw them at CVS one day waiting for a prescription
