What's the etiquette on giving gifts when you go to a destination wedding? Do you still give as big of a gift or are you expected to give one? FH and I are going to one in Aruba next week, and it's costing us over $2,000 just to get there and stay in the hotel- that doesn't include any eating, drinking, or activities we may want to do. It's a lot of money for 3 days, and we're just trying to figure out what's an appropriate gift. A bunch of friends are saying that our presence there is gift enough considering what we have to spend to attend, but I don't think that's right. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: Destination Wedding gifts?
Since I am a destination bride, I can only offer my personal opinion.
When me FH & I decided to do the wedding this way, we realized that while it can put people out, at the same time we are only inviting about 20 people who are closest to us. In the end the event is about us and we are not doing it for the gifts, but rather for us, and if others can attend, great, and what they can afford to give is their own.
