Hi everyone! I am a bride from LI that is getting married in Florida. I have been so happy with my desicion to have a destination wedding, but i have had one concern: getting my dress down. Of course my options are to ship it early, or fly with it. I am scared to ship it because i dont want it to leave my side before the wedding. I want to fly with it, but in the past airlines used to have a 'captains closet' where you can store such items. Since 9/11, they dont do so anymore. I am scared of it getting ruined in the overhead bin, not being ridhgt above me, being crushed, etc. My dress luckily is not to big and of course will be in a garment bag, but i am so scared! Anyone have any suggestions or know anyone recently who was in my situation? I need some advice!

Re: Destination Wedding- How to transport my dress?
My friend had a destination wedding in Las Vegas last year. She shipped her dress via FedEx insured a week or two before. Her bridal manager at the hotel received it and made sure everything was fine with the package upon arrival.

Re: Destination Wedding- How to transport my dress?
I know of someone who shipped her dress by FedEx (or UPS..I forgot which) a couple months in advance. She said she was scared to death that something would happen to it so she sent it early in case she had to have a new one made in a rush. That's a little over the top for me, but I understood what she was saying. The wedding planner for the hotel where she was having the wedding accepted the package for her and took it home until the bride got there.
Re: Destination Wedding- How to transport my dress?
My cousin bought her dress at RK bridal and they put it in a cardboard carry-on suitecase for her. So she was able to carry it on. When she got to Greece she had it steamed.
I would see if the place you bought it from can do that for you. I would NOT check it! I'm iffy about Fed Exing it.

I see girls carrying them on the plane all the time.

When my MOH flew up for my wedding, they put her dress in the closet on the plane. And that was just her MOH dress!

ALOT of destinations wont let you ship your dress ahead of time...they dont want to be responsible for it. If you take it on the plane with you'll, they'll stow it in the captains closet for you. Thats what I did

Re: Destination Wedding- How to transport my dress?
I had this dilemma back when we though we were having a 2nd reception in California. My dress was huge and I didn't want anything to happen to it. I felt best taking it as a carry-on.

Re: Destination Wedding- How to transport my dress?
You ladies that used the closet on the plane- what year (appx) was this? And what airline? This way if it was recently mybe i can zero in on what airline i should take. I know i can ship it, but i am so scared as to where the hotel may be storing it, is it going to be ok, etc...So im still debating. My best bed would be the closet on the plane so hopefully that works out... BTW here is my dress!
