Asking for a friend . . . She is having a destination wedding and not many people will be invited. Do the same rules regarding showers for reg weddings apply to destination weddings? Opinions please

Being that I just went through this I'll share. One of my BM's friends is having a destination wedding and while they were not invited to the wedding, she was invited to the shower. My BM was VERY insulted and decided NOT to attend the shower. She believes that with a destination wedding, she SHOULD have been invited because she certainly would have liked to go to the carribean and see her get married. The expense didn't bother her and would have made a vacation out of it. The way she feels now is that she's not a good enough friend to be invited to a carribean wedding but she's good enough to invite to a shower and give a gift.

One of my friends got married in Hawaii a few years back (they only took their immediate family with them) and then had a 'reception' when they got back. The women who were invited to the reception, but not the actual wedding, were invited to a shower.
