we live in an apt and want to get a kitten. weve never had a cat before and don't know anything about training them or anything. what do we need to know before we go looking for a kitten?

It is sooooo easy. And might i suggest getting 2 kitties, possibly related. My guys are best friends. We got them at 8 weeks old from North Shore Animal League and they are the greatest. They are so easily trained. All we had to do was put their paws in the litter box...AND THEY WERE TRAINED. It's that easy. And having two cats, they chase eachother (we have a 1 bedroom apt) and don't destroy things in the house. They sleep together, eat together, and play together. I can't imagine not taking both of them. Any other questions, ask away and good luck!

I agree about getting 2. We have two and they love each other to death. They are great company for each other. Never owning cats before them, I can tell you it doesn't seem that it would be much more work than one. It may even be easier because they amuse each other.
As far as training, we got ours when they were about six weeks and they were barn cats. Once we showed them the litter box they never had a problem. The only advise I have is that you have to baby proof your home because they get into everything.
I was always a dog person before but once you get a cat you'll be in love.
