DH is quitting smoking cold turkey today

Oh boy... any advice on how to handle him? He already warned me that he's going to be very lethargic and cranky these next few days (at least!)... should I try not to bother him?

I hope this actually works for him! He has said he was going to quit many times before but it never sticks. He started getting sick on Wednesday night and then yesterday he said the smoking is not helping at all and he needs to stop. He had 10 cigs left and I think he finished them all yesterday and last night. I am praying this works for him!!!

My FH did this in late august - it worked great for 3 weeks and then he started again because his boss got him aggrevated He says he is going to quit again, maybe even before the wedding.

Holy cow Marisa!!!! Stay far far away from him!!! My advise.....don't ask him all the time 'how are you doing' it will just piss him off!!! Buy sugarless gum and Lollipops..maybe toothpicks for him to have in his mouth. I wish him all the luck in the world!!! Its so difficult!!!!!! Good luck to you too!!!

Yeah thats what usually happens with my DH! Something (or someone, usually his parents) will p!ss him off or he'll get stressed out, and he picks it right back up again! We will see if this time it sticks! Thanks, Jen!

i would just give him his space...i've tried that before (only lasted 6 months...i suck at quitting...lol) he's going to be def irritable!!!! just take it with a grain of salt...the first 2 weeks are the hardest ( it will be the time that his body is actually going through withdrawal)

Thanks, Lin! Yeah I try not to be a nag with the whole smoking thing in general, so I def won't be asking how it's going! Good idea on buying the toothpicks and stuff! Tomorrow night we're sposed to go out to a bar (if he feels better) so that will be a HUGE test for him. We'll see!

i quit cold turkey almost 3 years ago. i know it sounds silly but when the urges happen you just need to take a deep breath and move past them! i did a set of pushups or something quick to take my mind off of it. drinking is going to be super hard.

i suggest peanuts or sunflower seeds....something that takes a long time to open, is still healthy and tires our your mouth!

My FH says the patches are good, and that he wants the whole system - the first week, second, week, third, etc. He thinks it helps. I had the first week for him this past time, and he was cutting them in half to make them last for two!!!!! Mr Cheapo wouldn't buy new ones. They are kinda pricey if you do them for the whole 4 weeks or whatever it is. I guess I will get them for him again. I may wait until after the wedding.

FH & I used the patch and then started up again after 1.5 yuears during our planning. We will quit again after the HM.

Try to cut him some slack - if he says something w/ an attitude he more than likely does not intend it to come out that way..at least that is how we were. Maybe pick up dome treats for him...lollipops, twizzlers, gum so it is handy for him.
