DH just Killed an Opossum !!!

Even though it is a big rat, I was really upset. He didn't do it on purpose, but he just pissed me off that he didn't care at all. It is still one of God's creatures. I made him go back and pass it like five times, just to see if maybe it survived. But I don't think it did.

I'm sorry...sometimes things like this can't be avoided.

BUT...BE SURE to check the opossum's pouch (they have a pouch like a kangaroo) to see if it has any babies! This happens a lot...a opossum is killed, and it has living babies in it's pouch that just die from starvation, cold, etc.

If it has babies, bring them to your local vet, or animal ER...they would be happy to nurse them...my DH's hospital does this all the time, if you need any assistance with live babies, FM me, we would be happy to help.

Opossum's are dramatically different from rats.
opossum's are omnivor's, they don't attack people or other animals, unless they are physically attacked...and more likely, they just play dead when attacked.

They are marsupials, and they carry their young in a pouch like a kangaroo. They also have a prehensile tail (can hang by their tail).

By the way...rats make great pets...seriously! (When I first starting dating my DH I was shocked, but it's true!!!) They are extremely intelligent, and they also don't usually bite when purchased from a pet store, unlike hamsters.

Hitting an animals sucks...it's never happened to me, but I was in my uncle's car when he hit a rabbit, and I was totally freaked!
