DH lost his ring in hawaii on our HM!! it was the day before we left and we were snorkeling. i turned around to check on him and noticed that his ring was gone! i tried to look for it, but he didn't even think it was worth it since it could be anywhere in the reef. i'm so upset....... we've only been married 2 weeks and his ring is gone forever......

Re: DH lost his ring!
Oh - I'm so sorry. I know it's very symbolic and it has a lot of sentimental meaning but don't put too much into this though, it's not an omen or anything. I'm really sorry though.

I am sorry. We kept doing 'ring check' at the Resort's pool. We kept our hand in a fist while swimming.

That's going to be my DH. He plays with his constantly. I even caught him throwing it up in the air like a ball.

Don't feel bad. My DH lost his ring too. I am soo upset with him!!! He keeps telling me that he will go and buy a new one. But to me it's just not the same as the original.
So, I know how you feel.

Re: DH lost his ring!
I agree..it's far from an omen....my MIL lost her e-ring twice in the ocean and a wedding band as well. They've been married HAPPILY for almost 28 years!
As much as it stinks, just get him a new one. We have 'sunny day' bands...really cheap bands for the beach/pool....they came in handy when we were painting...I got paint all over that thing...would've been all over my nice rings! [I don't like NOT wearing anything...and I was in and out running errands while coats dried...so I wore the cheapo so I wouldnt' forget to take off the nice ones to paint again...DH thought I was nuts, but I felt it was important to display my marital status.]
eta---It is a great piece of symbolism and I understand your 'pain' fully...my DH wanted to remove his for basketball...I refused for fear he'd lose it. He points out married couples we know who don't wear their rings at all...I told him that if they don't want people to know they're married, that's their problem...I am proud of it and feel that the whole world should be able to take one quick glance and know we're married. It is far more than 'a piece of jewelry' and I can totally understand why anyone would be upset. He can learn to adjust to wearing a ring...I had to.

I'm so sorry!! My FH never wears jewelry of any kind, not even a watch, and he keeps asking me how I'm going to feel when he loses his ring.

Re: DH lost his ring!
My MOH, who's a bride on here, was also a bit upset when her DH lost his ring in the ocean. It's just a piece of jewelry. I think it's very common for guys, especially since they're not used to wearing rings. I'm sorry you're upset. Go get another one, and if you'r Catholic, go to mass one Sunday and ask the priest to bless it!

Re: DH lost his ring!
My cousin is a jeweler and he said it happens ALL THE TIME!! He said that because men are not used to wearing rings, they don't get the ring to fit properly, they want it too loose, and it falls off in the water - he has already warned us numerous times.

Re: DH lost his ring!
so sorry!!! the same thing happened to my DH on our honeymoon. the resort had sailboats that we could take out, and the one day he wanted to go out, but i just felt like sitting on the beach and reading, so he went on the boat by himself. ended up fipping the sailboat, and his ring fell off in the process i was upset, but could't be TOO mad, cause a lot worse could have happened. luckily it was only a plaing titanium band, so nothing super expensive. hope your DH is able to find another ring that he likes just as much!

Re: DH lost his ring!
The same thing happened to us! My DH lost his ring at the beach three weeks after our wedding. I was so upset because the ring I put on his finger on our wedding day was gone forever, but we got over it.
We ordered him a new one (the exact same ring) and right now he's wearing a temporary one (that will be his 'beach' ring from now on).
Don't worry! I know it's upsetting, but it will hurt less with time!

This is exactly how my DH lost his...Playing football in the ocean=evil, wedding ring losing activity.

I am so sorry ..but remember its not an omen
I was angry with DH last week because he was playing basketball with his ring on and it 'fell off of his finger' (likely story since he is always playing with it) and a diamond fell out!!
Now, we are getting that fixed-he will wear it at night/special occassions
but for daily wear we are buying a cheap plain ring

Re: DH lost his ring!
thanks ladies! unfortunately the ring he lost was an expensive platinum band. he agrees that his next one shouldn't be as much in case he loses it again. which, as it sounds from all of you, he will! i also like the idea of having a beach ring! the other thing that was upsetting to me is that this was the ring that the priest blessed, but i like the idea of bringing it to mass one day and asking the priest to bless the new one also.
