Diabetic Meal Plan

Does anyone have any good links to a diabetic eating website?

My mom was just diagnosed with diabeties and her doctor pretty much gave her no info! So I am just wondering if any of you have any good information that I could pass along to her.

TIA

I am a PA and I usually give patients the link to the American Diabetes Association.

I hope this helps!

When I was diagnosed in 1999, I was given a huge food pyramid/diabetic exchange list poster which had been given to Dr.'s offices by Drug Companies. Perhaps your Mom could ask a nurse at her office if they have one, or, here's the pyramid info from the American Diabetes Assoc.

********** note of caution!!!!!! I'm 58 yrs. old, and in menopause. One menopausal issue can be severe burning, after eating/drinking foods/beverages with bladder irritants. This happens because the bladder tissues are thin, due to low estrogen levels. Along with estrogen creams, I have to be careful what I eat and drink, and ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS USED BY DIABETICS ARE ON THE BLADDER IRRITANT LIST!!!!!! Mary MOB

Sorry to hear- I totally can relate to your concern- my Dad was diagnosed with Diabetes earlier this year.

He went to the Drugstore and asked the pharmacist for information on Diabetes. He got a whole bunch of pamplets and brochures about dieting, exercise and how to cope with it. So far it's helping. We always have sugar free products in the house- diet sodas, Splenda and sugar free ice cream. Exercising is important. For some reason, when his weight was down, so was his sugar levels.

Does your Mom has the testers? My Dad tests his levels twice a day. He learned what to eat and not eat based on his sugar levels. Good luck to your Mom- she will be fine once she monitors it.
