Diamond Rings

A carat is measured by weight, and you can't usually tell just by looking at it. Diamonds come in different shapes with different tables and depths. You could have a smaller diamond with a particularly wide face of the diamond. That would make it appear larger than the carat weight.

I wouldn't worry what other people think either.

ETA - b/c of differences in the cut, you can't accurately tell carat size by measuring the head of the diamond. Carat is a measure of weight.

I cant tell at all....... when I found out that my ring was a little less than 1 caret I was shocked (not shocked at the size)....I guess 1 caret is bigger than I thought?

Thank you. This is good information. I got a little freaked out because some jeweler in the mall decided to take it upon himself to measure the head of my ring with some sort of tool, and the tool measured it as 1/2 carat smaller then my gemology report. My ring is deep, though, so I figured that could be the difference.

You got it! Your gemology certification should be correct, not someone who measures the head of the diamond. I mean, there is average size for each shape / size diamond, but it's not definitive!

Like someone else said, all that matters is that you love it!

I was a total diamond stalker before I got engaged, but not so much now... Now I'm a band stalker... I guess I look for ideas...

i am so a Diamond stalker...I actually never knew that there was a phrase for it.

I have to look at everyones ring. I wonder if Ill eventually find someones that I like beter than my own.

Maybe I should stop looking /stalking
