diamonds

Do older diamonds, meaning heirloom diamonds, ever lose their shine? Does it just need a good cleaning? I have friends who showed me their heirloom diamond and I am less than impressed. I thought the old the diamond, the prettier it is.

They just need to be cleaned. I've seen beautiful, sparkly ones! My mom's was my grandmother's. After cleaning it looks like new.

Age doesn't really mean anything. It's the cut of the diamond that will most affect its sparkle. It's possible that the heirloom diamond you saw was an old mine cut diamond (more common 50+ years ago) which doesn't have the same sparkle as a round brilliant which is more common today.

Here's some info. they should still sparkle quite a bit, but i believe the round brilliant has the most sparkle of any cut around and is what most of us are used to.

Older diamonds are usually cut differently, so it all depends on the cut and a good cleaning. My mom has my grandma's diamond and it's a shiner.

it just needs a good cleaning. Theoretically, diamonds are thousands of years old already..or something like that.
