Hi~ Is it possible to damange your engagement ring by banging it ionto something? My friend thinks she sees a cloud in her ring that wasn't ther before.

Re: Diamonds
If it's hit in the right (I should say wrong) spot...on the right angle, or where there was already a flaw, yes it's possible.

Re: Diamonds
I dont think you can. I actually thought i damaged my ring awhile ago. I banged it and it looked like there was a crack. O course there wasnt any..I went and got it appraised and there were no cracks...is it possible that it is just dirty? Try cleaning it with diamond jewelry cleaner.

Re: Diamonds
Yes, it is possible to damage it like that. Chances are that there was already a flaw there and she just happened to hit it in the wrong spot. Make sure she goes and gets it checked out right away.

Re: Diamonds
Anything is possible, but remember a diamond is one of the hardest stones... A cloud is a natural formation in the stone...I could see it cracking or chipping... but not clouding.
Tell her to bring it to any jewelry store and have them check it out...they probably won't charge her, BUT make sure she keeps an eye on her ring!

Re: Diamonds
Yup, she may have caused a crack inside. Have her take it to a very good jeweler, though they may not be able to tell if it is natural or was caused by something recently. Have her check it out though, b/c if it's cracked deeply she'll want to know so that she doesn't further damage it.

Re: Diamonds
FutureMrsTC....I really have NO IDEA. I honestly believe that there was a flaw in the diamond when we bought it. I went to get the ring sized b/c it was a tad to big for my finger and when I got there the jewler kept looking at it and examining it. Then he finally askes me if I banged it anywhere and I honestly replied NO. I had only had the ring about 3 weeks and would have remembered smashing it. The guy told me my brand new ring was WORTHLESS. My Fiance almost had a heart attack...I thought he was going to kill the guy. The jewler realized that his reputation was on the line and got us another diamond. We did have to pay more but exactly what he paid...NO MARK-UP. I was devestaed when it first happend but now we laugh about what we could have bought with that extra money. There is NOTHING wrong with the new ring...THANK GOD!!!!

Re: Diamonds
I really want to insure my ring. Would this be covered? I was told just to report it stolen in that case because insurance companies won't reimburse if its damaged or the stone falls out. I'm wondering if any of you have insurance and can recommend someone. I may try to do this through renters insurance but it is very expensive
