Diamonds vs Fashion Jewelry

Went to the Javitz Jewelry Trade show... My eyes are still hurting from the bling! Unfortunately, the next one won't be till March... but there might be other Jeweler shows this October...

While walking around, I had my eyes set on picking up a diamond necklace. My mother and FH say that there's no point on getting a BLING BLING real diamond necklace because:
1. I won't be able to wear it again.
2. I don't want to have to worry about it

That *if* I were to get a diamond necklace I should get an eternity necklace, something classic, but not over the top... but that wasn't the style I wanted to go with.

So... should I just get the elaborate fashion kind, without the real diamonds? A lot of people say that no one cares anyway...

I have been thinking about this too - I don't wear any fake diamonds and don't really want to on my wedding day, but I definitely cannot afford to buy a real diamond necklace unless it was something like an eternity necklace. I think I might actually go with something that doesn't have rhinestones, something with crystals.

I think fashion jewelry would look fine as long as it's not huge. I think lots of fake diamonds look just that, fake. But a simple, elegant fashion necklace can look beautiful.

Otherwise, you can find really nice diamond necklaces that you can wear everyday too. I was going the fashion jewelry route, but my mom bought me a diamond and pearl necklace that is fancy enough for me to wear but also simple enough to wear everyday.
