it was GREAT! A candle in every room, we ate outside and then sat in the living room listening to my battery operated radio that everybody made fun of me for getting (when I bought all that duct tape!!!!). Didn't need the tape...but the AM radio came in handy!

Re: did all our LIW babies and mommas do OK in the dark?
doing good!
I had no idea it was such a HUGE blackout. I thought a few houses on the block or something. When john got home, I asked him if we should go pick up something to eat. and he was like 'youre not understanding how BIG this is ! ' So since I had already marinated chicken, we BBQ outside, had chicken, grilled mushrooms, onions and a salad. YUMMY !
John Anthony was great. We were all sweaty, so after dinner, we hung out outside a little longer, looked at how GORGEOUS the dark sky looked with no light pollution ! Before bed we took showers, I gave JA a nice cool bath, and he slept in only a diaper...
I havent heard from any of my family, theyre in queens and I still cant get through to cell phones or regular phones... and last night they had phone services when we didnt...

My lil Peanut was one month old yesterday (Happy 13 month anniversary, Erica! ), so we'll never forget that date!! I didn't even get a good 1-month pic of him... I'll have to take it today - he'll never know!!
He was obviously clueless about the whole thing. In fact, he enjoyed being fed by flashlight at 2:30 a.m. and he loved sleeping in a t-shirt & diaper w/ no blanket! He got ALOT more sleep than his worried mommy!!
I'm just THRILLED our power is back on so I can stop worrying about his refrigerated formula!
I hope everyone's ok!!

Re: did all our LIW babies and mommas do OK in the dark?
For 2 hours I thought it was only my neighborhood who had no power. All of our phones are cordless, and I had NO phone service at all, so I had no connection to the outside world. I was waiting patiently for Patrick to get home, assuming we would go out to dinner, and finally I was losing patience! I walked outside and my neighbors were all there chit chatting, and one and said to me, 'I bet your husband is going to get a lot of overtime tonight!!' I thought that was an odd thing to say, and I said he was on his way home, and they said 'Don't you realize what's going on?!', and filled me in. 5 miinutes later my dad came to pick me up and brought me to my parents' house so I wouldn't be home alone. Patrick had been frantic trying to get in touch with me, and called my parents and told them to go get me and Arnie. I actually had a great time at my parents', because they had an informal block party of sorts, and I got to see SO many people who I grew up with and hadn't seen in ages!
He FINALLY came to pick me up at 2:30am after 9.5 hours of OT. I can't wait to get that paycheck!!!

Jenn - that's so sweet! Glad to hear he was ok. I was thinking of all the police officers asked to work last night. At least it'll be a nice paycheck!!

Re: did all our LIW babies and mommas do OK in the dark?
The world will always remember my 30th birthday. We were at the pool with friends and their kids when my mother called on my cell phone to say that she couldn't babysit because of the black out A bunch of us had babysiters lined up and we were going to go to dinner and a local bar to celebrate. Of course that didn't happen.
One lesson I learned was to always keep powdered formula and bottled water in the house for Tommy. After I spoke to mom I left Tommy at the pool with DH and I ran around frantic to find a store open that sold powdered formula and bottled water. I was still a bit frantic that it may have been terrorist and didn't know how long it would go on. Lights came back on at 3:00 AM thank god.

Re: did all our LIW babies and mommas do OK in the dark?
I have a cheap regular phone in my kitchen for these types of events- I highly recommend everyone buy one. It was maybe $10. You can always store it in a closet. Claud and I were on the phone when my phone went totally static and died. It was a bit weird. But then we figured out what happened. DH called and told me that everything was out Did you know Pizza places use gas ovens so we were able to get dinner. My BBQ is electric- from when I lived in the condo- and we didn't get a new gas one yet so it would have been PB&J dinners last night. I felt bad because Scott was very worried that I was 6 months pregnant, home alone (at 4:30) and thought that maybe it would get too hot for me. I mean, I was totally fine but it was nice that he was so concerned. Also, the fact that I should have been in NYC I think added to his sense of worry. I was VERY glad I was home and not in a subway for hours- then I would have needed therapy. But we got power on at about 6:30, then it flickered a few times until about 8:00.

Michele - how thankful were you that you worked from home yesterday!!! I cannot imagine being pregnant in the city yesterday.
Jen - James is on a bus in queens now - thank God!!! He's being taken to Jamaica and will hopefully catch another bus to where we live. Otherwise I may have to drive over and meet him.
thanks for asking

I'm glad to hear that you are all doing OK--given the circumstances. Since we don't live in NYC anymore, I was telling DH that I couldn't imagine being 37 1/2 weeks pregnant and be in NYC right now!!! Hang in there everyone and DRINK A LOT OF WATER!!!!!
Thinking of all of you!!

Things were wonderful! We invited the neighbor over with their 2 year old and had a BBQ. We played outside till it was dark, and without any lights it was DARK, then we came inside and lite tons of candles and played somemore. We can have a blackout any day.
Re: did all our LIW babies and mommas do OK in the dark?
I'm happy to hear that everyone did relatively well!!!
and what a sky it must have been!!! with no lights...I know at MILs ranch in AZ that you can actually see the Milky Way since there is no light pollution!!

Re: did all our LIW babies and mommas do OK in the dark?
We moved yesterday. We were in the house for about an hour and the power went. We thought it was our house - I was ready to flip out. Then we saw it was the neighbors too and then we found out the extent. Ugh! I marked every box with a number and then had a list of what was in each box but I didnt put every little thing on the list, just the important things LOL Need I say, I didnt know where the candles were!! Our neighbor brought some by for us, what a doll. Poor Lukie was so hot and there was nowhere for him to go with all the boxes. I finally thought to fill his bathtub (its a deep plastic tub) with cool temperature water and we let him 'swim' in the hallway in the warm glow of the candlelight. He was happy. It was way too hot for my taste before the power went. But it was actually a lovely night sitting in the candlelight with my DH and our sleeping baby in the living room of our new house.
