Did any brides to be...

actually look at/book a hall before getting an engagement ring? What are you thoughts on this. I do know some people who have done or are considering this...

FH and I looked at one hall while we were dating. We really wanted to get an idea on how much it costs to have a wedding that would fit what we both wanted.

I think if the couple knows that they will eventually marry, then I don't think it is a big deal to look at halls before getting engaged. I'm not sure about actually booking it though before being engaged. We only wanted to look at the hall to get a better understanding of the finances. I think it would have felt too weird for me to have the hall booked but no formal engagement. JMO

I did. I knew FH was looking at rings (weve been together for a little over 5 years) (he went with a good friend of ours, who told his GF who told me).
Anyway, Im only in NY a couple times a year and I wanted to make sure I was able to have my wedding in a place a really wanted instead of settling for a place that was a available next time I went to NY. Also, we were only able to have it one weekend (while I was on break from law school). Went to the Bourne, loved it, didnt want to risk losing it. Mom put down a deposit and I got a ring about a month later.

I didn't do that....but I did look at Bridal magazines and of course, rings!

my dh and i had the hall booked before i picked up my engagement ring from the jewelry store but i didnt want to wait because i know alot of girls get engaged at christmas and didnt want to not get my date at the hall i wanted it still didnt work lol my first choice was gone

We looked at prices online for the Milleridge to get an idea of what we were spending. He was also looking for rings at that same time.

we didn't book our place, but we looked around a lot before we were officially engaged. we are both in med school and i had taken 10 months off to do research, so it was the optimal time to do the legwork for the wedding, even though there was no ring. for the record, my family thought i was being crazy for pre-planning and let me know it. now everyone is like, 'oh, look how relaxed you are! what a good idea it was to look around in advance!'

Just another question here...only because it popped into my head...

if you and your boyfriend book a hall for your wedding, doesn't THAT technically MAKE you engaged?

My FH and I went looking for my engagement ring together, a week later we booked Russo's On The Bay. My FH proposed to me 2 months later in Little Italy. I was so happy.

My MOH and BM are planning on getting married, they are not 'engaged' yet, but want to start looking for places so they can save up money. Thanks for all the feedback!

My MOH is planning her 10 year anniversary party at some of the halls I wanted to look at for the wedding. I went with her to get her quotes and asked for mine as well. I got engaged about a month later.
