Did anyone challenge the tax assessment in Nassau Co?
Help!!! We only have until Monday to file the challenge, and I'm not even sure what I'm challenging!!
How do I find out what my assessment is?? Is it a one-time payment?? As a new homeowner, I'm completely baffled!!
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!! I feel like a doofus!!

Re: Did anyone challenge the tax assessment in Nassau Co?
So weird this post is up today b/c I was just working on this most of the morning. I have a condo in Long Beach that I am trying to sell and my real estate agent called to say someone was interested but was apprehensive b/c of the taxes. So to try and see if I could lower them I called regarding this. In order to file a grievance you have to fill out a form and attach documentation of recent sales of homes/condos etc. that are comparable to your home that are being assessed for less. It is a nightmare. I didn’t; have time b/c I only found out today and the info had to be filed by Monday. You can call the Dept of assessment to find out your homes value. Their number is 516-571-2049. It is all very confusing. Having grown up in Manhattan I have no idea how all this works.

Im no expert but here is my 2 cents
www.mynassauproperty.com
1. click on property serch 2. enter your address 3. take a look at the values and assessments - this is your current assessment
4. enter the address of a few like homes on your block 5. take a look at the values and assessments - see how your assessment looks vs. theirs. 6. If yours looks high in comparison check the picture and sketch of your neighbors home(s) for to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. If everything looks similar you be able to get your assessment lowered.
