hey ladies! i guess i need to change my name on my passport - i changed it everywhere else months ago, but i just booked a cruise for may 5th... so my name on the passport needs to match up to everything else. anyone change it? i read here that i have to mail in my OLD passport with my ORIGINAL marriage certificate?!?! i'm so nervous about this!!! was anyone else - and did you have any problems? i want to be sure i will get my paperwork back in time for the cruise and also that i get my marriage certificate back!!! thanks!

Yes, I applied back like the first week of December and I actually just got it back today (the marriage certificate, the old passport and the new one). It did take a long time....I was getting nervous, but it finally came through.

I need to do this, too..I'm going to pay to have it rushed b/c we're going away 2 months from today..just don't want to risk it. It's so dumb..not like I didn't have a YEAR to get it done

I didnt change mine either yet. I have to like very soon! I think my travel agent said as long as you have ur picture ID and your official marriage license [from the town] you'll be ok. I hear when you change your passport, they charge you practically for a new one?

I also did mine and was very nervous, but it all came back just fine! Mine was just about expired so it worked out $ wise! Good Luck!

If you do it within a year of the original passport, then it doesn't cost!!! I only got my first passport for our honeymoon, this worked out for me!
I was nervous about sending the original marriage license, so I got an official copy for $10. That copy has been used for numerous things!

I have to still do this! I went & got an 'official' transcript of our marriage from town hall so I can send that in.....

I mailed my old passport in with the orig. marriage certficate and I got my new passport, old passport and the certificate back in one pice 6 weeka later.

yes! very happy to hear all successful stories! mine is older than a year, that *****! i also know that in 2008 they are going to be changing all passports to have a microchip in them so everyone will have to get new ones (because they are going to make passports necessary even for domestic flights) and it's going to cost like 200 bucks. should i just wait? i don't want to pay to change it now then again in another year or so! if i have my drivers license (i can bring my old one with my maiden name too), another photo id with my new name, my passport and my marriage license, do you think that would suffice? maybe i'll call a travel agent. i booked through expedia, so i'm not sure.

Honestly, Kelly. Save yourself the agrravation when traveling - get the passport, so you don't have to worry about carrying multiple foms of ID and being questioned by security.
