I wanted to do precana, but we aren't getting married in the church so we couldn't. I was wondering if anyone did counseling, and if they found it useful? I want to make sure we have discussed all of the important issues in life before the wedding!

Re: Did anyone do premarital counseling?
we did it through DH church with the Pastor....it was very helpful! and he was not the one preforming the ceremony...but the pastor from California said he would not marry us unless we had done the counseling!
ETA: not only was it helpful in what to expect in marriage, but we took personality tests and went over how our different styles would mesh/clash! The pastor went over all aspects of marriage, like budgeting, sex (yes....sex), faith (we are an interfaith couple)

nope... and do not plan on it... I really dont want a stranger telling me if FH and I are good for each other... I think we all know the answer to that already... why else would u plan to get married...

It isn't really to tell us if we are good for each other--what we are doing is to make sure we covered all of our bases--discussed finances, jobs, children, our priorities in life...I feel like we are so busy we might not sit down and discuss all of these areas in depth together, but with a mediator suggesting topics I am sure we will get to truly know what the other one feels about everything...

We already discussed all that stuff on our own. We have a 'plan' but things always come up, so we say whatever happens, happens, as long as we are together.

what denomination was the pastor from?
We met with our Pastor as well & she gave us things to discuss, like money & kids & sharing living space. Mostly we discussed what she brought up on our own & she told us lots of stories as a reference point.
it was good, becaue most of it we had disucussed before, but I felt that if we eere at an impass we could share that with her& I feel that we could always go to her for help in the future.
This is a required part of getting married in an Episcopal church, but how many tiems you go is up to the priest. We went 4 times, the first 2 she pretty much repeated her self & the fourth was more about the ceremony details.

We did it. I wanted to make sure we were going in prepared considering we only dated for 6 months before getting engaged. It was a good experience but we found we had talked about many of things she brought up. Went to a family & marriage counselor in the city thru my company's employee assistance program - 5 sessions for free.

Ladies...for those who haven't been and i'm quite sure the other ladies will agree. The class was a great experience....I like it because our Pastor went straight biblical. But gave us real life situations. You talk about submission...if you have a problem submitting marriage isn't for you. But it was a great experience...I wish you ladies could come and let our Pastor counsel you...God Bless!
