Did anyone else's milk never come in?

Did anyone else's milk never come in?

I had wanted to breastfeed, but at the hospital the nurses convinced me to use formula after I didn't have any colostrum in the first 24 hours and they said she was starving. She is now 16 days old, and my milk still has not come in. I never leaked, my breasts never got engorged or painful. I'm waiting for my doctor to call me back, but was wondering if anyone else experienced this. Is it a sign that something is really wrong with me?

This happened to my girlfriend too. There is nothing wrong with you. Her doctor told her that some woman just have this problem after they give birth.

Have you been trying to pump? My sister in law had a baby about a month early, and it took her three weeks for her milk to come in, she was pumping every day.

The doctor can you WRONG advise!!!! You need a professional lacation consultant asap!!! Are you doing anything to get your milk to come in? Do you pump all day? Do you breastfeed at all?
It is very rare that a women does not produce milk at all...but it can take some women longer to get milk in than others. The problem is that doctors are not educated about bfing or nursing help. Also, they just don't take the time to work with new moms.
What the advise you should have been given is to supplement using a nursing devise while pumping! I mean, pumping every 2-3 hours. I don't know if they can do anything after 16 days though..it will be hard work but if you are determined it may work. My milk took 6 days for my milk to come in and the moron doctor at the hospital forced formula/bottles on me and by the time I got home my bfing was a total mess. Molly never latched again but I pumped bm for her for 1 year. The LC is the only person who got me on track.
Her name is Dawn Frank, South Shore Lacation Consulting in Babylon. Call her asap! Explain the problems and go see her. An OB or Ped can't give you the same help.
