Did anyone email/call photogs for quotes?

Just curious to know if anyone emailed or called Photographers/Videographers for quotes prior to making appts?

Also did you call to ask to see if they are even available for your date/time?

FH and I haven't really made any appts yet and are still looking at recommendations to see whose style we like, but I am a bit nervous we won't be able to get the ones we want.

I pretty much emailed all the photographer I was interested before making an appt. It saves time if by chance they where not in my price rang.

I sure did! We don't live on LI so we had to, and after I got their quotes/package lists, I scheduled my appts to meet them tightly. If someone wouldn't give me a price range or other info over email, they didn't get a visit or consideration from us!

Thanks for the info guys.

Anyone else do the same?.Only schedule appts if they provided info via email/phone?

I emailed the photographers I was interested in. The ones who didn't call or email me back, were crossed off the list. Much easier to eliminate that way. Also goes to show whether or not they respond to their emails, etc. That is the way I will be doing the rest of my planning.

Since there are SOOO many to choose from, I emailed anyone I was interested first. If they didn't respond, they were nixed from the list.

Thats a great idea. I will def try that. Did you all submit via LIW or actual photographers websites?

Yup, I didn't even bother with the ones that said they can't discuss prices over email.
I've made sure to see their portfolios and their fees before I scheduled the appointment. Why waste time when you've got so much to do as it is!

I'm not from LI so I booked all Jersey vendors but I went through the knot, chose the vendors I liked. Top 5 based on their websites and called them for pricing ranges and availability. The ones that were nice to me, answered all my questions and/or returned my message, I made appts with.

Yep. I requested quotes and nixed those that wouldn't given them to me via email. Why bother when there are so many other good ones that will. I would rather work with someone that was straightforward and honest then evasive and possibly deceitful.

We called & went to three. For what we want it's all around the same price of $5000- that is without parent albums. Can you believe how costly. Good Luck to you.

Some were vendors on LIW, but I looked at some that I found on the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) site. It's a great resource for looking at styles of photographers that you may not see elsewhere.

i called a bunch and if their packages were reallly high and out of my budget, i crossed them off my list and wouldnt meet with them, i narrowed it down that way

I'm totally into photography, so I called photographers and spoke to them, asked about their style, went to meet several in person and check out their work.

Videographers... I posted a price quote request on the Vendors Helping Brides board, had several responses, FM'ed them with what I wanted, got some quotes, then met a few in person and that's how I decided.

Yes, I'd definitely find out if they're available for your date first. I think that was one of the first questions I asked everyone on the phone and in emails. It helped weed out those whose work I liked but weren't even a possibility b/c they were already booked.

Before contacting anyone, make a list w/ FH of what you want from these vendors, what type of packages you're looking for, how many hours you'll need them, approx what time you'd need them to arrive, etc. That way you'll have all the info you'll need when they ask you these questions before meeting with you.

HTH!

I did all by phone and email, since I did most planning from NJ. I think vendors are fully adjusted at this point. Technology is a big part of our generation.
