Did anyone have their dress made?

I'm debating having a dress made, but I'm not sure. Some people tell me it will cost more, some tell me it will cost less. I also want to have gold embroidery and beading on it, and I'm worried about finding someone who can do it. Any advice? My wedding is a year away, so I feel like I really need to decide quickly. Help!

My dress is custom made. Its actually designed by the owner of the bridal shop.
