I believe expectant mommies who are jewish do not have showers because it's believed it is bad luck ...

Re: Did anyone not have or not want a shower?
I don't want one just because of the obligatory gift thing, but my DH and I are thinking of hosting a get-together for friends and family in honor of the baby, probably at a restaurant somewhere with 'please no gifts' on the invite.
I'm sure that at some point I will get gifts from close family and friends, but don't want the traditional 'bring me gifts and let me open them' party. I still regret letting myself be talked into a bridal shower for the same reasons. We just would love to see everyone and celebrate the coming of the next generation together.

That's EXACTLY how I feel! I will be married a year and everyone dished out enough for me.

I don't WANT one per se....just because I don't want people to feel obligated....we'll get what we need one way or another, but if someone wants to throw it, I'm not going to fight.
Being in GA with nearly no one around friend-wise, I'd have to go back to NY to have it

I also didn't want one because of the 'gift thing'. I felt with our wedding having been so recent, and with a Christening after the baby was born, it was too much to ask of people.
