...Family members compete for who can buy the most shower gifts?
My grandmother is OUT-OF-CONTROL!! She bought me all of my sterling ($2600), a waterford two tiered dessert tray ($200), and pajamas and a robe for FI (?).
My mom said she is embarrassed because my grandmother is completely out doing her!
My other aunt bought me 7 place settings for my china ($1440) and a open vegetable dish ($250).
This is one competition I am happy to be a part of!!!!

and I like to buy a nice gift but not compete..thats weird

I have seen this. My FMIL ran out and got our Kitchen-Aid before anyone else could get it because she knew my mom's friend wanted to get it for us. She got us our cookware set instead.

Um, nope, haven't noticed it. Sounds like something people with a lot of money to burn do, and since I don't know too many people with a lot of money, my registry is still quite full.

I wouldn't mind seeing it. So far I think my mom has bought 1/2 the things on my registry.... but I don't see many people competing with her I had to add more things to my registry because every time she goes out shopping she picks something else up. I don't mind though
that sounds fabulous! i havent had my shower yet! gee i hope i have that very same 'problem'

Can I just ask why you put how much it cost? I think we could have guessed? It just seems based on the responses from us, that not too many of us are in the same financial boat as you and your family and came across a little show offy to me....
