Did anyone pay for their BM's dresses for their gift?

If so - how did you tell them?

I'm sending them a bottle of wine (as a 'toast' of thanks) and a card telling them that I want to cover the cost of their dress.

Its hard to word though (saying 'I'd like to pay for your dress' while implying that that's THE BM gift sounds a little tack, i dont know!) - any ideas of what to say?

Because my BM dress was expensive ($236) I told my girls that as part of their bridesmaid gift I am putting $100 towards their dress. At first they didn't want to hear it so I had to convince them that it was what I wanted to do. I am also going to get them jewelry.

I really wanted to pay for their dresses - they are flying a long way to be in my wedding so I felt that rather than getting them a gift that they may or may not use, I'd rather do what I can to help them out with the expense of traveling 3000 miles to be with me! I hope they are happy with it and don't wish I'd just get them a 'real' gift. I am also going to make them nice welcome baskets for when they arrive in Ireland.

I think it is very generous of you and they will appreciate it. Just tell them how you feel and what your reasons are. I think it will be great!

When I was a BM for my friend's wedding, she just told me that she was paying for the dress. We all appreciated it.

I think that's a very nice gesture considering they do have to fly quite a distance and have to incur the extra expense. I would greatly appreciate that today rather than probably anything else. It's just that at 34 I've been in so many weddings, I have jewelry and the most practical gift would actually be the dress.

I think it's a great idea.
