Did anyone set a dollar amount cut off for liquor?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm having a brunch wedding so champagne punch is included, but I wanted to add beer and wine and that's $15 dollars extra pp, which I feel is a bit pricy considering not everyone is even going to have beer or wine. Do you think I should just set a money amount and then cut it off if it gets too high? It would be about $1200 if I added it to the pp charge.

How would you get away with that? The bartender would just turn people down at the bar? Would it switch to a cash bar at that point? I don't see that going over too well but my people are all drinkers.

IMO, I would add the $15 per person. I was at a wedding where the tab got to the couples limit and the guests were really ticked. People were not expecting to have to pay for their drinks. This is just my opinion though.

I agree, but I also think you should find out the price of open bar. Most of the time it is not that big a difference between open bar and beer/wine and I think you should offer all drinks.

Do they give you a set price for open bar? I know that is probably a stupid question, but I have no idea. I've never had any hand in planning a wedding. I might do that then. We're not paying for hard liquor because it is a brunch.

You may be able to run a tab and have the maitre'd tell you when you are getting close to whatever dollar amount you think is reasonable to spend on alcohol, then make the decision to stop the alcohol service or continue to run the tab. I have seen this done at showers.
