Did anyone's Child NOT use a Binky??

I was just wondering because Mia has never used one-ever, she spits it out and now that she is starting to teethe I don't know what to put in her mouth..she doesn't like the teething rings or the wet rags or anything. However she does love her whole fist in her mouth!

Many children dont take binkies. They know EXACTLY what they want or dont want from VERY early on

Is Mia being very fussy or irritable?
Just let her chew on whatever soothes her, even if its her little hands

John Anthony LOVED his binky and hated teethers. Never ONCE used a teether for more than half a second. So every baby is soo different.

Theres also some board books that have 'teething' corners, which are soothing to the gums.

Gianna has also discovered her whole fist this week and has been sucking on it and shoving it so far in that she even choked herself several times!!! As for the binky, it seems my child ONLY likes the stupid big gagunda one that was in her bassinet in the hospital!!! And the funny thing is, she never used it while I had her in the room with me and I wasn't going to take it, but at the last minute I took it. Then we went home and all heLL broke loose since she had her days & nights mixed up. I got about 9000 binkies at my shower and I swear to you, I must have put every single one of them in her mouth and Joe came into the kitchen one bleary eyed morning to find them all on the floor!!!! She spit each and every one out and the only one she would keep in is this big huge thing that took up her whole face!!! My friend cracks up and tells me to get a 'normal' one!!!

That's good that she doesn't want one because it's better for her teeth not to have one (that's what my friend who works for a dentist tells me). Plus my niece lisps because she's constantly with the darn thing in her mouth and won't give it up and she's going to be 5!!!!

Here I go off on my tangents....

In answer to your question (finally), how about those teething rings -- from the freezer?

Damien won't use one either. Maybe it has something to do with BF'd. Try a frozen bagel, depending on her age of course

The hospital used on (didn't tell me, of course) when Molly had her blood work done because of my GD. And when the doctor brought her back to me with it in her mouth I wasn't happy (because we are trying to BF) BUT how could I not let my peanut have one to comfort her when they were sticking her with a needle Now that we are home it is in a draw and will only be used for doctor's appts.

You can also freeze a piece of no-seed Italian bread or buy her one of the frozen water things to suck on.

Lyla won't take one. We still try to give it to her occasionally, but she mostly just chews on it and spits it out. Now that she has more hand control I clip it on, and she tries to put it in her mouth, but ends up putting the wrong side in. I was really hoping that she would take one, since she's not good at self-soothing, but I'm kind of happy about it, since it's a habit taht we won't have to break later. She does suck her thumb sometimes, but it's also not in her mouth all the time-yet.

Using a Binky should not harm BFing efforts at all. In fact, many lactation consultants recommend them, especially for babies who prefer to suckle ALL day, just for comfort instead of eating (they will want to be latched on to the Mommy 24/7, just for comfort).

However, instead of a Binky, you could offer the baby your (nail side down) pinky finger to alleviate the suckling reflex.

We tried to keep Nicolas from using one, but when he was fussy we could hear him sucking on nothing from 2 rooms away! We figured that if he needed to sooth himself, why torture him.

We DO NOT give it to him at night though because I don't want to have to wake up and find it every time he drops it!!!

Consider yourself lucky! Sean took the binky right away and I'm hoping to wean him after the New Year! He only gets it when he's sleepy/cranky. Once he falls asleep I take it out.

It's a total PITA to get up a million times to put it back!
