Did I Mess Up My Floors????

Did I Mess Up My Floors????

Okay, I had never used Murphy's Oil Soap on my hardwood floors, and I probably shouldn't have even been trying it when I did, because I didn't have much time .. but the floors where I tried it, feels sort of tacky.

I'm not really sure how to explain it. Before I did this, if you were wearing socks and walking across the floor, you could glide or 'skate' .. the floors felt very smooth. Now, since I've 'cleaned' them, you don't get that same feeling .. you sort of have a grip on the floor now.

Did I not dilute the soap enough??? Have I ruined my floors??? Can I just wipe them down really well with a barely-damp sponge???

HELP!!

Murphys is made for wood. it sound like you have residue left on the floors. try and clean them with a damp, no-soap, mop. rinse it often.

Good Luck!

I agree. I clean my floors with Murphy Soap and then I mop them with just water.

Okay .. so I went back over my floors again with a damp mop, and they are much, much better ... however ... over this weekend, I was going through some house paperwork, and found the care instructions for our hardwood floors, and it specifically says:

NO MURPHY'S OIL

So, I guess that was the first and last time I will be doing that. It says use a damp mop .. or something else .. I can't recall the name now.

I just had my floors refinished and I ask the guy today how to clean them and he said-WATER or WATER AND VINEGAR. That is it, no wet swifter, will take the finish off and no Murphy's Oil.

Hope that helps, if I hadn't asked I would have probably used Murphy and/or the wet swifter.

Dry swifter is ok he said.

Thanks!!!

Dry swiffer .. I do that. I also will gently use a vaccumm from time to time (and yes, I was told that's a no-no .. but like I said .. I'm gentle). And I had previously used just a damp mop .. I don't know why I went for the Murphy's Oil this time .. good thing I didn't have much time, and I only did a couple of small sections of the floor. NEVER AGAIN!!
