did my menu for WM yesterday!

It was so much fun! Alex is a doll and she made sure we were well taken care of!

When we first got there, we were actually 1/2 hr. early. She gave us free drinks at the bar. She came down right on time and had the bartender top off our drinks (I had a pino grigio and my FH had a gin and tonic- just incase you wre wondering). She brought us upstairs to her office and showed us wedding cakes first. My FH and I mentioned that it was making us hungry b/c we hadn't eaten since 11:30- lunch time for me and 12:30 for him. She immediately called down for a 'sampler appetizer' platter which was HUGE! It had calamari, mozzerella sticks, baked clams, spinish puffs, pigs in the blanket, rice balls, stuffed mushrooms, bruchetta, sausage, just to name a few. The portions were incredible and we just couldn't eat it all. In the meantime, she called down for more drinks for us.

We picked out our cake- I decided on the whipped cream for the icing- thanks everyone and Marnels, I did this just for you .....now can I have my tacos at your wedding?

Anyway, I had showed her 2 pictures of cakes I likes and she combined the tow of them. It's going to be a 5 tier cake (square) with a little detail and instead of flowers, we chose fresh berries to top it off (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc.) Our filling is canolie and strawberries in yellow cake.

For coctail hour:

beef teriyake, fennel sausage, vegetable tempura, stuffed baked clams, california roll, quiche, fresh mosserella, chicken cajun, bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms, coconut crabcakes, tri-color caviar, fresh veg. crudite, international cheeses, hand carved melons and fresh fruit cascades, mozzarella caprese, roman marinade, fresh breads, a rost turkey and roast sirloin of beef carving stations, eggplant parm, chicken scarpariello, seafood scampi orzo, roast duck kruger, fried calamari, spanakopita and carve neva- which is a salmon and fish table. We will also have an ice carving. I'm not too sure which one I want, but I did pick out a vase with fresh flowers. I like it but it is $150 extra for the fresh flowers. (she also threw in more typical appetizers like pigs in the blanket etc).

Dinner reception includes:
champagne toast (of corse!), asparagus vinaigrette with artichoke hearts, roasted pepers, and ripe plum tomatoes for the appetizer, the manor salad (boston lettuce, romaine, hearts of palm, chiodini mushrooms, tomato and olives (salad), fresh rolls, trays of celery, olives and carrot spears, the intermetzo will be lemon sorbet with midori liqueur and fresh mint, for the main course: Mignonette bordolaise (sliced filet mignon with a shallot and burgundy wine sauce), chicken romano (chicken, artichoke hearts, wild mushrooms and cognac sauce) and herb crusted salmon.

Dessert:
hazelnut mousse, international coffie table, a dessert tray of assorted pastries and fresh fruit (including chocolate covered strawberries- my favorite!), cappichino, espresso and a cordial bar.

and of course..... our cake as mentioned above!

We asked her if it was possible to get the option of me, my FH, parents and FIL's to have a 'sampler' dinner platter that will allow us to taste the 3 choices for dinner. This way we know what the other people have ordered and if it was prepared ok.

Also, for the coctail hour, the parents of the B&G are given 'sampler' platters of EVERY appetizer served so they don't have to wait on lines to get their food. They can just sit and relax if they want. We also get that.... but who will have time to sit with so many people to thank and greet?

I think I have covered it all. I just can't say enough good things about the WM and everyone who has taken care of us there. I am so excited and can't wait for this day to come! Just 39 days to go today!

On a side note...WE BOOKED OUR HM TODAY!

we were not going to take our HM until feb. break as we are both teachers, but we got approved for leave for 1 week after our wedding! I am so .

Hope this was helpful to all.

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

richesbride:

So are you! 39 days to go and counting! Did you get your marriage liscense yet? We went today but have to go back next week. Long story short.... my FH's birth name is on his driver's liscense and the name he goes by (since he was a baby) is on his social security card, so they told us that he has to change his SS card to his birth name! Problem is that the SS office hours are the exact hours we work and can't take off. He's going to leave work early next wed to do this. What a pain!

Hope things are going well for you!

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

Kelly4,
I'm getting so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I think my shower is this weekend! We need to go for our license too, we need to go to Mineloa because my FI needs to pick up a copy of his divorce decree from the county clerk, so we'll do it there. I think next week!
What little stuff do you have left?
I still have to get programs made, placecards, seating, finalize favor order, meet w/ florist & DJ again, finish dress fittings, dye shoes, get Fi's ring engraved, wrap BP gifts............I'm sure there's more. I keep having dreams that I'll forget something!

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

We're getting married at WM too. Your menu looks so good. I showed it to FH and he was impressed with how much food you are getting. We had dinner at WM last week and the food was awesome.

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

Kelly (richesbride):

all I have left is to do the seating plan, final dress fittings, have my bachlorette party (yea!), have our RD (booked already though), pick out my parents gifts, and well, I think that's just about it! We decided not to do favors. We just couldn't agree on what to give and since my FH is jewish, he has said that they usually don't give out favors at weddings. I have been to 2 weddings (jewish) with him after we were engaged and when I thought about it, we didn't get favors from them and it didn't bother me the least bit! It's just easier this way too. In a way, I feel bad, but very little.

Best of luck!

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

Thanks Kelly4 for sharing with us your experiences with the menu at WM! It gives me a good idea about it. Only two questions, did you have to pay extra to have the cake you want and the for the Ice Sculpture (no flower base included?

Thanks!

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

avesur:

No, I did not have to pay extra for the cake I chose, however I might have if it was more elaborate. The ice sculpture was included in my contract but I wanted the vase style. I do have to pay $150 extra for this b/c of the flowers.

Re: did my menu for WM yesterday!

cecil:

My FH and I both teach on LI. we are tenured and asked for the time off without pay. We would never get time off paid for a wedding. What does your FH teach?

Best of luck!

PS~ WM= Westbury Manor

Thanks Cira! I'm glad to hear. I have only heard great things about them.
