Did Nora like the S&M or did it serve a purpose?

I think that while Nora was a bit more $exually adventurous than most, I think that she used the pain and humilation as an outward showing of how she felt about herself.

I think she unleashed a secret desire she had all along but used the death of her sister and the accompanying guilt as a way to mask her real desires. In other words, I think she liked it.

I think her guilt for her sister's death was so strong that she wanted to feel the pain that she felt in order to understand her and her death better.

Lisa- do you think she really didn't like it.
I think she liked it. If she really wanted to understand her sister better- she could have looked into her other activities like the brownies or the hospital she worked at. Not just the dark part of her life. Plus I think she might have had some experience with s&m before M. The first time she did anything with M and she wasn't sure what he was going to do and he pulled out nipple clamps- she was said that it was JUST a pair of nipple clamps.

I think she did like it but I think being with M and having S&M was for a purpose. She did not know that Franny did 'good deed' work.

I think she like it. At the end of the book she says in her own way that she missed it.

Oh LORD yes I think she liked it. I think that was the only fascinating part of the book – is how her energy was tapped into by him. And the kinkier it got the more turned on and committed she was. As if she had been unleashed. Experimenting, testing boundaries, testing limits. I think it was very challenging for her on top of it being physically invigorating.

I think she enjoyed it. I think her enjoyment is author's way of telling us that there is nothing wrong with S&M if it is between two consenting adults who enjoy the kinkier side of sex.

I definitely think she liked - that she could enjoy the dog part (YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!!!!!) is my reason for thinking that. If Nora was using it only as a way of trying to understand what Franny went through, she would have had similar responses to what Franny did (crying, humiliation). She actually enjoyed what she was doing.

She definately liked it. There is no way a person, I dont care what the cirumstances, would go through that especially with animals if they didnt enjoy it somewhat. I think M gave her something that was hidden deep inside of her and to a certain extent I think she was ashamed that she did like all that they did together.
